Registered voters in the Igbo-Etiti/Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency of Enugu State have initiated the process to recall their representative in the House of Representatives, Hon. Martins Oke.
According to DAILY POST, this move was outlined in a petition dated March 27, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The petition, signed by Mr. Ugwuagbo Emmanuel Chizoba, alongside Mr. Clinton Ogbonna, Mr. Sabinus Amah, and Mr. Stephen Okenwa, cites the lawmaker’s alleged non-performance as a key reason for the recall effort.
“This is his third term in the Federal House of Representatives, yet he has no notable bill or motion to his name,” the petitioners stated.
They further claimed that Oke has no visible constituency projects and is rarely seen participating in National Assembly sittings.
“He contributes nothing to local, state, or national discussions. He isn’t representing us at all,” they added.
The petitioners also alleged that Oke was not legitimately elected by the constituents, asserting that he was imposed on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against the will of party members.
They argued that he lost the general election by a wide margin but was declared the winner by the Appeal Court based on technicalities.
“We want to reclaim our mandate, which he secured through the courts,” they stated.
Additionally, they accused the lawmaker of failing to establish a constituency office and rarely visiting the constituency.
“He has never held a town hall meeting or engaged with his constituents. He remains completely disconnected from the people.
“We don’t see him at home, on TV, or even in the National Assembly during sessions,” the petitioners claimed.
They emphasized that Oke has not shown any commitment to the welfare of his constituents, failing to address critical issues affecting the Igbo-Etiti/Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency.
The letter also stated that, in compliance with constitutional requirements, the petition was signed by at least 50% of registered voters in the constituency.
