President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially sworn in Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd) as the Sole Administrator of Rivers State.
The swearing-in ceremony took place on Wednesday at the State House in Abuja, with key dignitaries in attendance, including the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, among others.
Atlantic Reporters recalls that on Tuesday night, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State in an effort to resolve the ongoing political crisis.
As part of the declaration, the President suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for an initial period of six months.
Following this decision, Tinubu appointed Vice Admiral Ibas to oversee the state’s administration until stability is restored.
Ibas previously served as Nigeria’s Chief of Naval Staff from 2015 to 2021 under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
