Security forces intervene as Zamfara town comes under heavy attack

Troops of Operation FANSAR YANMA, in collaboration with local vigilantes, successfully repelled an attack by bandits on Mada town in Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State, eliminating four of the assailants.

The attack, which took place around 10 p.m. on Friday, was the latest in a series of retaliatory strikes by bandits following the death of a notorious kingpin in the area.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, who shared details on X on Saturday, the troops, acting on intelligence, engaged the attackers in an intense firefight, forcing them to retreat into the forest with gunshot wounds.

“The bandits invaded the town intending to spread terror, but security forces and vigilantes swiftly countered their assault. We neutralized four of them, while others fled with injuries,” a security source told Makama.

During the confrontation, a resident identified as Naziru Bakanike Mada sustained a gunshot wound to his shoulder and was rushed to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

Zagazola further reported that this was at least the fourth attempt by bandits to overrun Mada in retaliation for the elimination of a notorious leader, Alhaji Sani Dan Garin Bawo, during an earlier military operation.

Since March 11, fighters loyal to the slain kingpin, under the command of bandit leader Dogo Hamza, have launched multiple revenge attacks on Mada.

However, security forces have consistently thwarted their advances, inflicting significant casualties.

“Mada has become their graveyard. They can keep trying their luck, and we will continue sending them to their maker,” a military official declared.
