Elon Musk, an adviser to President Donald Trump, has stated that U.S. federal workers will have another opportunity to justify their roles or risk losing their jobs.
Musk had initially set a deadline for federal employees to outline their work achievements by the end of Monday, issuing the request via email.
This move is part of Musk’s broader push against government bureaucracy, as his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) seeks to reduce federal staffing and spending.
However, after the original deadline passed on Tuesday, staff at several federal agencies were reportedly instructed to ignore the request.
“Subject to the President’s discretion, they will be given another opportunity. Failure to respond a second time will result in termination,” Musk stated.
Reports indicate that DOGE, which operates under Musk’s leadership, has encountered growing resistance to its cost-cutting measures, facing legal challenges and opposition from lawmakers.
