Former Nigeria coach, Jose Peseiro, has yet to secure his first victory as head coach of Egyptian club Zamalek.
Peseiro was appointed by Zamalek on February 14, 2025, signing a one-and-a-half-year contract to replace Christian Gross, who was dismissed earlier in the month.
The Portuguese tactician, who previously managed Zamalek’s rivals Al Ahly, began his tenure with a 1-1 draw against Petrojet. The result left Zamalek in third place in the Egyptian Premier League with 27 points, trailing leaders Pyramids by three points and Al Ahly by two.
Seeking improvement, Peseiro made four changes from the Petrojet game, including handing Mohamed Atef his second appearance of the season.
However, his second match in charge also ended in a 1-1 draw, this time against Al Ahly in the Cairo derby.
Substitute Achraf Bencharki put Al Ahly ahead in the 72nd minute, but Mahmoud Bentayg equalized for Zamalek six minutes before full-time.
Reflecting on the game, Peseiro admitted, “I think Ahly were better in the first half, but they didn’t create many clear chances apart from the shot that hit the crossbar.”
“The draw is a fair result between the two sides,” he added.
Zamalek will next face ZED at the Cairo International Stadium on Thursday.
