The media office of former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal has called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) to fulfill its campaign promises instead of targeting critics of its policies.
Tambuwal’s Criticism of APC
Speaking on Saturday, Tambuwal claimed that no politician with a conscience would join the ruling party, alleging that defectors were driven by personal gain rather than principles. He argued that Nigeria’s economic crisis made APC membership unattractive.
In response, APC spokesperson Felix Morka dismissed Tambuwal’s remarks, branding him a “notorious and vainglorious party defector” and accusing him of hypocrisy, citing his own history of switching political parties for personal gain.
Tambuwal’s Media Team Responds
On Monday, Tambuwal’s media office released a statement condemning Morka’s remarks as an attempt to silence opposition and divert public attention from the nation’s worsening economic and security challenges.
“Rather than addressing pressing issues like economic hardship, insecurity, and governance failures, the APC resorts to cheap propaganda and personal attacks—a tactic that reveals its desperation and leadership failure,” the statement read.
Accusations Against APC
Tambuwal’s team accused the APC of using coercion, enticement, and intimidation to weaken opposition voices and push Nigeria toward one-party rule.
The statement also dismissed APC’s claims that recent political defections were a sign of support for President Tinubu’s economic policies, calling such claims misleading and insulting to Nigerians struggling with economic hardship.
“Rising inflation, worsening insecurity, and increasing unemployment have forced businesses to shut down and plunged many into poverty. Yet, rather than addressing these issues, the APC continues to peddle false narratives,” the statement continued.
Tambuwal Defends His Legacy
The statement defended Tambuwal’s political record, emphasizing his role as a founding member of the APC and describing his tenure as one marked by selflessness and patriotism.
