Police recover stolen livestock, rescue kidnapped victim in Niger

The Niger State Police Command has successfully rescued a kidnapped victim and recovered a significant number of stolen livestock.

In a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the victim was identified as Cornelius Damulak, a 36-year-old student of Veritas University, Abuja. He was rescued on February 14, 2025, along the Pogo-Paiko highway.

Abiodun revealed that Damulak had been abducted from his residence in Bwari, Abuja, on February 6, 2025, and was held captive for eight days before managing to escape.

“Fortunately, he was able to escape on February 13, 2025, after trekking a long distance. He eventually found himself along the Pogo-Paiko highway, Minna, where he was promptly rescued and taken to the police division,” Abiodun stated.

Damulak was provided with medical attention at a nearby hospital, while authorities continue efforts to locate his family.

Stolen Livestock Recovered

In a separate operation, officers from the Maitumbi Division intercepted a vehicle carrying stolen cattle along the Gwada-Maitumbi Road.

The police arrested Mohammed Ibrahim, Ibrahim Yakubu, and three other suspects in connection with the livestock theft.

Investigations revealed that the stolen animals, consisting of 11 cows and 34 sheep, were taken from a compound in Kuchi, Munya Local Government Area.

“During interrogation, Mohammed Ibrahim admitted that he stole the animals from a man named Saleh’s compound in the village and was transporting them to Minna for sale,” the police spokesman confirmed.

The stolen livestock have been recovered and are being held as evidence, while police continue their search for the rightful owner.

The suspects remain in custody as investigations progress.
