Terrorism: Justice Nyako adjourns Nnamdi Kanu’s trial indefinitely

Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja has indefinitely adjourned the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

The proceedings were halted after Justice Nyako recused herself from the case on September 24, 2024, following Kanu’s request for her withdrawal due to a lack of confidence in her impartiality.

As a result, Justice Nyako returned the case file to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, John Tsoho. However, Tsoho reportedly sent the file back to her for continuation of the trial.

Kanu is currently facing terrorism-related charges brought against him by the Federal Government.

The IPOB leader has remained in detention since 2021, following his rearrest in Kenya and subsequent extraordinary rendition to Nigeria.
