Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker has cautioned his former club against re-signing Paul Pogba, stating that such a move would be a step backward for the Premier League side.
Instead, Parker advised Ruben Amorim’s team to focus on signing players with the right mindset.
Pogba is expected to return to football in March after his four-year doping ban was reduced to 18 months. The 31-year-old, who has already had two spells at Manchester United, is currently a free agent following the termination of his contract with Juventus.
Speaking to GOAL, Parker questioned the wisdom of bringing Pogba back, citing his prolonged absence and off-field activities.
“You have to consider how long he has been out and how much attention he draws to himself outside of football,” Parker said.
“It would be a step backward—just like it was the last time they signed him. Sir Alex Ferguson let him go for a reason, sensing something wasn’t right.
“They brought him back, and it didn’t work. Doing it again would not be the manager’s decision—it would undermine him. That’s not progress.”
