Tariffs war: Canada bans US firms from govt contracts, dumps Starlink deal

Ontario, Canada’s most populous province and economic hub, has announced a ban on U.S. companies bidding for government contracts worth tens of billions of dollars and has also canceled a deal with Elon Musk’s Starlink in retaliation against U.S. tariffs.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford made the announcement in a post on X on Monday, stating:

“Ontario won’t do business with those determined to harm our economy.

“U.S.-based businesses will now miss out on tens of billions in new revenues. They have only President Trump to blame,” he said.

Ford also revealed the termination of a Can$100 million (US$68 million) contract with Starlink, originally signed in November to provide internet access to 15,000 homes and businesses in remote northern Ontario.
