Former military president General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida has underscored the critical role of unity in addressing the numerous challenges confronting northern Nigeria.
Babangida made this statement while hosting officials from the Northern Star Youth Empowerment Initiative (NSYEI) at his Hilltop residence in Minna, Niger State.
He remarked, “Unity is the only way for the north to overcome its challenges, making the emergence of the Northern Star movement both timely and commendable.”
The elder statesman praised the NSYEI for their efforts and urged them to work relentlessly toward fostering unity, not only within the north but across the entire nation. He reiterated that unity remains the key to resolving the region’s challenges, highlighting the significance of the NSYEI’s mission.
Earlier, NSYEI representatives, led by former Sokoto State Governor and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Alh. Attahiru Bafarawa, co-chairperson Hajia Naja’atu Mohammed, and Director-General Dr. Abdullahi Idris, aligned with Babangida’s views.
They emphasized the necessity of unity among the diverse communities in the north, enabling the region to act as a cohesive force within the Nigerian federation and to better pursue its collective interests.
