A gathering of notable figures and individuals from various walks of life took place in the historic kingdom of Edeaniagu, located in Ishi-Ozalla, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State, to celebrate the rich culture of the people.
During the annual festival, the Edeaniagu community made a passionate appeal to Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State for recognition as an autonomous community.
Attendees at the event were treated to a vibrant display of the community’s cultural heritage, as various masquerades and traditional dances captivated the audience.
The festival began with the arrival of the traditional leader of the Edeaniagu clan, Don Sylvester Chinedu Nweke, also known as the Ishi 1 of Ishi-Ozalla. He was accompanied by elders of the council and titled men.
In his address, Nweke, who also holds the titles of Ede 1 of Edeaniagu and Ureavueze 11, emphasized the importance of the annual event as a platform to celebrate and preserve the cultural heritage of the Edeaniagu clan for future generations. He reaffirmed the community’s commitment to supporting government initiatives for the development of Edeaniagu, Ishi-Ozalla, and the greater Nkanu region.
Nweke also urged those promoting division within the community to desist, warning them of the consequences from the gods.
Prof. Muna Nweke Okoye, an indigene of Edeaniagu and Ufam of Ozalla Land, expressed joy at the unity and peaceful nature of the community, calling for its continuation. Reflecting on the history of Edeaniagu, she asserted that the clan was the original settler in Ozalla land and declared that no amount of intimidation could alter that history. She encouraged the people to uphold truth, peace, and cultural values, expressing confidence that their rightful place in Ishi-Ozalla would soon be restored.
Community members pledged their loyalty to the leadership of Ishi 1 of Ishi-Ozalla and reiterated their appeal to the Enugu State government for autonomous community status, which they believe would foster rapid development in the area.
