Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, is set to graduate 6,374 students for the 2023/2024 academic session, according to its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh Luqman-Jimoh.
During a press briefing ahead of the university’s 12th Convocation ceremonies, the VC revealed that 71 students achieved first-class honors, while 1,828 earned second-class upper division degrees. Additionally, 517 postgraduate students completed their programs during the session.
The convocation will take place on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the ultramodern performing arts building. Emeritus Professor Abubakar Sani Sambo, President-elect of the Nigerian Academy of Science, is set to deliver the convocation lecture titled “The Optimum Utilization of Nigeria’s Energy Resources for Sustainable Growth and Development of the Nation.”
Highlighting the institution’s milestones, Professor Jimoh noted the addition of 10 degree programs accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and an expansion of faculties from nine to eleven. He also mentioned the upgrade of the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital to support clinical training for the MBBS program.
The VC acknowledged ongoing challenges such as land encroachment, inadequate road infrastructure, and limited hostel facilities. He expressed gratitude to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for his support in addressing these issues and for implementing the new minimum wage for university staff.
