Yuletide: Police ban fireworks, unlawful gatherings in Ekiti

The Ekiti State Police Command has assured residents of robust security measures before, during, and after the festive season.

This assurance was delivered by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Akinwale Adeniran, in a statement issued on Friday in Ado-Ekiti through the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sunday Abutu.

Adeniran emphasized the need for public cooperation, adherence to law and order, and support to maintain peace and safety in the state. He warned against unlawful gatherings, demonstrations, or protests, stressing the importance of a peaceful atmosphere to protect lives and property.

He revealed intelligence reports indicating that some individuals might exploit protests to incite violence and cause fear in the state.

“The Ekiti State Police Command appreciates the support, cooperation, and collaboration of residents throughout 2024, which have significantly contributed to crime prevention and the preservation of peace in the state,” Adeniran said.

He urged parents and guardians to dissuade their wards from engaging in activities that could disrupt peace and security, warning that violators would face legal consequences.

Additionally, the command has banned the sale and use of fireworks, knockouts, and firecrackers in the state. Adeniran explained that these items pose potential security risks, cause unnecessary panic, and may trigger health concerns. He also highlighted that the noise from fireworks could be mistaken for gunfire, leading to confusion and fear.
