Simon Ekpa, leader of the Biafra Government in Exile, has asserted that the participation of the Biafra Under-19 team in a European football tournament symbolizes international acknowledgment of Biafra’s independence.
In a statement shared on his official X handle on Saturday, Ekpa expressed that the event signifies Biafra’s growing status within the global community.
He revealed that the Biafran team would face SL Benfica, the reigning UEFA Youth Championships winner, in the Algarva football tournament in Portugal on Saturday.
Ekpa emphasized that the team’s participation aims to showcase Biafra’s resilience and send a strong message to the international community and the Nigerian government. He claimed that Biafra now operates fully functional government institutions, including a Ministry of Sports.
“It’s a proud moment to see that Biafra is firmly established. With the Biafra Under-19 team competing in the Algarva Elite Football Tournament in Portugal, running from November 14 to November 18, 2024, Biafra has triumphed,” he declared.
“We will conquer all our opponents in this tournament to demonstrate to the world and the Nigerian government that Biafrans are unstoppable,” Ekpa added.
It is worth noting that Ekpa previously announced plans to declare Biafra’s independence on December 2, 2024.
