Mia le Roux, the reigning Miss South Africa 2024, has withdrawn from the ongoing Miss Universe competition.
According to Daily Post, the global pageant’s finale is scheduled for Saturday, November 16, in Mexico.
In a statement released on Friday morning, the Miss South Africa organization explained that her decision was due to health-related concerns.
“I am deeply thankful for the unwavering support from South Africans throughout my Miss Universe journey. This decision was incredibly difficult, knowing the hopes and dreams entrusted to me.
“However, prioritizing my health and recovery is vital to ensuring I can continue serving my country with strength and dedication,” said Le Roux.
As the first deaf contestant in Miss Universe history, Le Roux was among 120 contestants competing for the coveted crown.
