Baltasar Engonga: Equatorial Guinea’s ex-ANIF boss remanded in prison

Baltasar Engonga, the former Director-General of Equatorial Guinea’s National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), has been detained following his recent dismissal.

Engonga is now held at Malabo’s Black Beach Prison.

The ex-ANIF chief became entangled in a high-profile scandal involving over 400 sex tapes with prominent women in the country, uncovered amid a fraud investigation.

These tapes were found at Engonga’s residence and office, causing public outrage.

President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo dismissed Engonga in response, citing Decree No. 118/2024 dated November 4, which referenced misconduct in his role and inappropriate personal conduct.

French blog Afrikmatin confirmed Engonga was officially removed on November 6 and subsequently transferred to Malabo Central Prison, facing charges of corruption and embezzlement.
