The Jigawa Government announced that it has prosecuted 403 individuals linked to the EndBadGovernance protests that occurred in August. This information was shared by the state’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Bello Abdulkadir-Fanini, during a press briefing in Dutse on Monday. He noted that the defendants received various sentences involving community service, while those with ongoing criminal cases were granted bail as investigations continued.
The commissioner further stated that, as of mid-September, there were no individuals from the protests still in custody. “From September 1, 2024, to now, our ministry has made significant progress in fulfilling its responsibilities through its key departments. The public prosecution department has successfully handled 403 cases related to the August 1, 2024 riot in Jigawa State. As of mid-September, there were no detainees,” he added.
