The Nigerian Army reports that its troops stationed in the 1 Division area of responsibility in Kaduna State have effectively thwarted a kidnapping attempt by a violent extremist and insurgent group.
According to Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, the troops successfully rescued the abducted individuals in Tantatu Community of Kajuru Local Government Area of the State.
Responding to actionable intelligence, the troops swiftly tracked the insurgents on March 17, 2024, around 10:30 pm, after they had previously attacked the community and taken several villagers hostage.
Nwachukwu stated that the troops relentlessly pursued the insurgents, engaging them in intense gunfire, and ultimately rescuing 16 kidnapped victims.
He mentioned that the troops are continuing to search the bushes to rescue any other victims and to put an end to the insurgents’ malicious activities.
Furthermore, Lt Gen Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, commended the troops for their successful rescue operation and urged them to remain vigilant as they carry out ongoing counter-insurgency operations to free all troubled areas in the country.
