BREAKING: Ex-NUPENG Sec-Gen, Frank Kokori is dead

Frank Kokori, a former Secretary-General of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), has passed away. Kokori died on Thursday at a hospital in Warri, Delta State, as confirmed by his Personal Assistant, Atawada Oke.

The ex-NUPENG secretary had been contending with a kidney-related ailment for the past few months. On November 9, from his sickbed, Kokori raised concerns about his health. Within 24 hours, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State visited the elder statesman in the hospital, assuring him of the state’s commitment to providing support for his access to high-quality medical treatment.

Kokori played a pivotal role in the resistance against the annulment of the June 12, 1993, presidential election. He mobilized workers against the annulment and the military junta. Due to his activism, Kokori was arrested and detained by the military government.
