The Abuja-based Court of Appeal has upheld the election victory of Governor Bala Mohammed in Bauchi State. In the March 18 governorship election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Bala, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the winner.
Despite the electoral commission’s declaration, Sadique Abubakar, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), contested the election results and sought legal recourse. The Bauchi State Governorship Election Tribunal dismissed Abubakar’s petition, affirming Bala’s victory.
Undeterred, Abubakar took the case to the appeal court, asserting that the March 18 poll was marked by irregularities. However, in a unanimous decision on Friday, the panel of three justices upheld the tribunal’s verdict.
