Senate begs NLC, TUC, ASUU to call-off ongoing strike action

On Wednesday, the Senate called upon the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to promptly end their current strike, emphasizing the importance of patriotism and national interest.

The Senate further directed its leadership, headed by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, to expeditiously engage with representatives of the unions to facilitate a peaceful resolution of their demands.

This decision by the Senate was made during the consideration of a motion titled ‘The need for Labour to reconsider their industrial action in the interest of patriotism and for the rule of law and order,’ moved by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele during plenary.

This development coincides with ongoing discussions between NLC and TUC leaders and the Federal Government to address the issues leading to the nationwide indefinite strike that began on Tuesday. The strike was initiated in response to the attack on NLC President Joe Ajaero in Imo State.
