Governor Hope Uzodimma, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), emerged as the winner in 27 local government areas in the recently concluded election. The collation process was completed at 08:30 am on Sunday at the State Collation Centre in Owerri, the state capital.
The collation of results began at 02:30 am on Sunday in Owerri, with Prof Abayomi Fashina, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, serving as the state Returning Officer for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the election.
The main contenders in the election were the APC, represented by Uzodimma, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with Samuel Anyanwu, and the Labour Party’s Achonu Nneji, among the 18 parties fielding candidates.
INEC reported a total of 2,419,922 registered voters in the state, with 2,318,919 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) collected. Following the collation’s conclusion at 08:30 am on Sunday, Fashina announced a one-hour break at the center before reconvening for the announcement of the winner.
