Why we need to stop off-season elections in Nigeria – Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has urged the National Assembly to pass legislation to eliminate off-season elections in Nigeria. Jonathan made this appeal on Saturday in an interview with reporters after casting his vote in the ongoing governorship election in Otuoke, Bayelsa State.

He expressed concern about off-season elections, emphasizing the need for the National Assembly to intervene and put an end to this practice. Jonathan argued that conducting off-season elections is not in line with global best practices, and if the trend continues as outlined in the Nigerian constitution, there is a risk that even presidential elections may eventually be held off-season.
