The All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized the assertion made by Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), that the Supreme Court’s judgment on the 2023 presidential election was manipulated in favor of President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement issued in Abuja, the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Felix Morka, stated that legal cases are not decided based on public opinion but on the presentation of evidence and adherence to the law.
Morka commented on Obi’s press conference where he once again placed blame on our democratic institutions, particularly the courts, for not declaring him the victor. Morka emphasized that Obi’s sense of entitlement and his inability to distinguish between his personal perception of public opinion and reality had been detrimental to his campaign throughout the election season.
Morka further stated, “As someone who has previously benefited from the Supreme Court’s rulings on electoral matters, Obi’s harsh criticism of the judiciary only reveals his arrogance and self-importance. When the same court ruled in favor of Obi and confirmed him as the duly elected governor of Anambra, it was hailed as a pillar of democracy. But now that the court has ruled against him, he claims it has betrayed democracy. It should not always be about Obi; it should be about our country. Legal cases are not determined by public opinion but by the presentation of evidence and adherence to the law, both of which he failed to do.”
Morka also noted that while the APC welcomed Obi’s decision to engage in opposition politics in the future, he should do so in a mature and constructive manner.
