Gov Lawal receives emergency relief support for victims of Zamfara banditry

The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons has provided relief materials to victims of banditry in Zamfara State.

According to a statement released on Friday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, Governor Lawal received these items during his visit to the commission’s headquarters. Tijjani Aliyu Ahmed, the federal commissioner of the National Commission for Refugee, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons, welcomed the governor.

Governor Lawal’s visit to the National Commission for Refugee, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons was aimed at exploring additional ways to support those affected by banditry in Zamfara State, as stated in the press release.

During his visit, Governor Lawal requested that the Commission prioritize Zamfara due to the ongoing insecurity and the urgent need for humanitarian assistance. He also asked the Honourable Commissioner to consider extending the refugee resettlement cities built in Gusau to other areas of the state. Recognizing resource limitations, the governor stressed the importance of partnerships and collaborations in alleviating the suffering of over 2000 refugees in Zamfara.

In response, the Honourable Commissioner reassured the governor of the Commission’s commitment to providing ongoing support to individuals in need in Zamfara and other states grappling with insecurity. The federal commissioner commended Governor Lawal for being the first Executive to visit the Commission since taking office, appreciating his dedication to the well-being of the people.

The relief items received by Governor Lawal included bags of rice, cartons of spaghetti, semovita, farming tools, computers, industrial sewing machines, cobbling machines, exercise books, and whiteboards, among others.
