The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has issued a stern warning to officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding potential manipulation of the Imo State governorship election scheduled for November 11.
IPOB emphasized that it will not remain passive and allow the Nigerian government to exploit INEC officials for nefarious purposes within the state.
In a statement released by IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the organization cautioned INEC against actions that could lead to a crisis in the state.
The statement reads, in part: “The global family and movement of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), under the leadership of the resilient liberator, Mazi Nnamdi Okwuchukwu Kanu, is warning INEC not to plunge Imo State into a political crisis during the upcoming gubernatorial election.”
“While IPOB typically refrains from participating in Nigeria’s flawed electoral processes, we refuse to stand idly by as the Nigerian government employs corrupt INEC officials to perpetrate wrongdoing in Imo State and, by extension, the Southeast Region.”
“It is common knowledge that INEC has a history of fraudulent conduct during Nigerian elections. INEC is not independent but rather heavily influenced by the incumbent government or wealthy politicians who compromise its integrity.”
“In the forthcoming Imo State election, INEC officials must exercise extreme caution to prevent political turmoil by becoming willing tools in the re-election bid, which has been marked by years of suffering, famine, and violence.”
“We do not want a repeat of the Supreme Court’s previous illegitimate imposition of a rejected candidate on the people of Imo State, resulting in undue suffering, political coercion, and widespread bloodshed.”
