Supreme Court: I owe nobody explanation for visiting Tinubu – PDP’s Gov Diri

Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has stated that he has no obligation to provide an explanation for his visit to President Bola Tinubu shortly after the Supreme Court’s ruling on the presidential election. Diri pointed out that the opposition is uneasy and spreading false information about his visit to Tinubu right after the Supreme Court confirmed his victory in the election.

A video emerged showing Diri congratulating Tinubu after the Supreme Court’s confirmation of his presidential election win. Nonetheless, Diri insisted that there was nothing unusual about his visit to Tinubu.

He made these remarks during a visit by the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) governorship campaign team to the Igbedi community in the Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of the state on Friday.

Governor Diri asserted that he had the freedom to extend his congratulations to President Tinubu in light of the Supreme Court’s verdict on the presidential election. He clarified that he had visited the presidential villa to discuss significant state matters with the president and emphasized that President Tinubu had positively addressed the issues raised.

Diri stated, “On Thursday, I was in Abuja, and many of you saw the video circulating. The opposition is now nervous and spreading falsehoods, but that’s their usual behavior. As a sitting governor, I owe no one an explanation about my visit to the president when the Supreme Court confirms the president of the country. However, I went for very important state matters, and I can assure you that Mr. President addressed all the issues I raised.”
