Court issues arrest warrant for Ondo ex-deputy gov over alleged fraud

The Akure Magistrate Court has issued a bench warrant for the former Ondo State deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi, in response to allegations of theft against him. These allegations involve the acquisition of a brand new Toyota Camry worth N5.4 million through fraudulent means in May 2018.

The Commissioner of Police filed a request for the bench warrant to ensure that Ajayi appears in court to address the accusations. As a result, the court has ordered that Ajayi must either appear in court or provide a statement by November 24.

In the meantime, two former aides of Agboola Ajayi, Ogunmusi Samuel and Akintoye Olatunji, have already been brought before the court in connection to the car allegedly taken from Segun Adetuwo, also known as Showboy.

According to Samuel’s statement, the former deputy governor instructed him to accompany Olatunji to collect the car from Adetuwo. Samuel received a black Toyota Camry XLE from Adetuwo but left without making any payment for the vehicle.

The prosecutor, Emmanuel Tanimowo, informed the court that Ajayi did not respond to the invitation to present his version of the incident.

Akintoye’s counsel, Barrister Omolegbon Odunsola, mentioned that he had been actively trying to reach out to Agboola and Adetuwo in an attempt to resolve the matter outside of court.

On the other hand, Alex Olademehin, representing Adetuwo, stated that Agboola insisted he should either provide a written statement to the police or appear in person before the court.

The presiding Magistrate, Taiwo Lebi, has ordered that Ajayi or his statement be presented in court on the next scheduled date, with further proceedings adjourned until November 24, 2023.
