On Thursday, Governor of Enugu State, Barr Peter Mbah, initiated the construction of various road projects in the state, including a 17km dual carriageway and feeder roads in New Enugu City, a 40km dual carriageway connecting Owo, Ubahu, Amankanu, Neke, and Ikem, as well as the construction and reconstruction of 71 urban roads in Enugu’s capital city.
At the symbolic flag-off of the urban road construction, Governor Mbah assured that the 71 roads would be simultaneously constructed and completed before the end of December. He emphasized that the funds for these projects have been secured, and strict monitoring would ensure that quality standards and timelines are met without any variations or delays.
Regarding the New Enugu City roads project, Governor Mbah reiterated his administration’s commitment to making Enugu the number one city in Nigeria. He described the project as a significant development handled by the China Communication Construction Company (CCCC) and stated that it would rival great cities worldwide. He emphasized that the New Enugu City would feature essential infrastructure, including a dedicated power project, a central sewage system, high-speed internet, and various modern amenities.
The 40km dual carriageway road project, which will be a gateway to the North Central region, is part of the government’s plan to construct at least 10,000km of roads in the next eight years, aiming to enhance access to rural areas and stimulate economic growth, including agricultural and export activities.
Governor Mbah disclosed that a total of 400km of roads have been flagged off for construction during the first phase of the government’s road-building initiative.
The contractors, including Henry Li, Deputy Managing Director of CCCC Nigeria, assured the government of their commitment to delivering high-quality projects on time.
Local communities, their leaders, and traditional rulers expressed their gratitude and pledged to cooperate with the government and contractors for the successful and timely completion of the projects.
