Igboho expresses gratitude to Obasanjo, Soyinka, and others for their support during his detention

Yoruba Nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has expressed his gratitude to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka, Professor Banji Akintoye, Ayo Adebanjo, and various traditional rulers for their roles in facilitating his release from Beninese custody.

Igboho conveyed his appreciation in a statement he shared via his Instagram handle on Sunday, titled “My Release in Benin Republic.”

In his statement, Igboho expressed his profound appreciation to God for the events that transpired, thanking President Talon of Benin Republic and his cabinet members. He also extended his gratitude to Professor Banji Akintoye and Professor Wole Soyinka for their unwavering support throughout the struggle. He specifically praised them for standing courageously for the Yoruba nation and himself.

Igboho further acknowledged the contributions of former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Baba Ayo Adebanjo, recognizing that ultimate freedom comes from God. He also took the opportunity to thank all religious leaders, pastors, Muslim clerics, and traditional worshipers for their continuous prayers day and night.

It’s worth noting that Atlantic Reporters previously reported that Igboho was arrested on July 19, 2021, by the International Criminal Police Organisation at Cadjèhoun Airport in Cotonou, Benin Republic, while en route to Germany. He had left Nigeria following a contentious raid on his residence in Soka, Ibadan, by the Department of State Service (DSS), which accused him of stockpiling arms.
