Growing concerns have arisen over the activities of certain criminal elements believed to be operating in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Abuja, and other states across the country, involving the theft of male genital organs. In recent times, there has been a noticeable increase in reported cases of male genital organ disappearances, particularly in states within the North Central region, including Kogi, Nasarawa, Kaduna, and the nation’s capital.
Reports indicate that residents of the FCT have been living in fear for over a month due to incidents of alleged “manhood stealing.” This alarming trend has even resulted in acts of violence, with some individuals being attacked by angry mobs on suspicion of causing these mysterious disappearances.
There are varying accounts of how this crime is committed. Some suggest that a mere conversation with an alleged “manhood thief” can lead to the victim’s organ disappearing, while others claim that physical contact, including handshakes, is involved.
False alarms have also been raised, leading to public panic. Some security experts have suggested that many of these allegations are orchestrated to draw attention and facilitate other forms of theft during the ensuing chaos. Criminals may take advantage of the ensuing commotion to steal phones, bags, and other belongings from unsuspecting individuals.
However, there is no scientific basis for these claims, and medical experts have emphasized that the disappearance of male genital organs without a physical cut is impossible. They argue that the allegations are rooted in superstition rather than factual evidence.
Former federal lawmaker Senator Shehu Sani expressed concern over the increasing prevalence of these claims and the lawlessness surrounding the lynching of alleged thieves. He pointed out that there is no scientific foundation for these allegations and attributed them to the work of magicians.
A health expert, Dr. Kaleb Ugo, explained that medically, a man’s organ cannot simply disappear without a cut. He noted that while there are medical conditions that may lead to a reduction in the size of the penis, these conditions do not result in a total disappearance as claimed by some alleged victims.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Haruna Garba, has cautioned against spreading false information about alleged organ disappearances, emphasizing that such rumors have caused public anxiety and disrupted peace in the region.
