Dr. Innocent Eteng, the newly appointed Head of Service in Cross River State, has confirmed plans to initiate the recruitment of new civil servants in the near future.
Governor Bassey Otu had previously mentioned that over 80 percent of civil servants would retire by the end of the year, which would lead to a significant reduction in the state’s workforce. He also indicated that efforts were being made to retain some of the retiring civil servants by extending their services.
In an interview, Dr. Eteng stated, “We will soon commence a recruitment process to bring in young men and women to replace those who have retired, with the aim of revitalizing the State civil service. This recruitment process will adhere to all civil service recruitment guidelines.”
Additionally, Dr. Eteng mentioned plans for implementing reforms in line with global best practices to enhance the efficiency of the state’s civil service.
On the occasion of World Teachers Day, Comrade Gregory Olayi, Chairman of the Cross River State wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), emphasized the need to recruit up to 10,000 new teachers to revitalize the state’s teaching service. Olayi highlighted the acute shortage of teachers in the school system and called for additional teacher employment to address this issue.
