FG warns fuel station operators against pump alteration

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has warned that it will sanction fuel stations that alter petroleum pumps. The NMDPRA Chief Executive, Farouk Ahmed, said this during a meeting with commissioners of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

Ahmed said that petrol stations caught dispensing fuel with adjusted fuel pumps would face heavy sanctions, including revocation of operating licenses, suspension from operation, or a shutdown. He said that the adjustment of fuel pumps by filling station operators is a major concern for the oil regulatory bodies and the Federal Government.

Ahmed explained that the NMDPRA has staff who go round to take on-the-spot checks of fuel stations. He said that the authority also does physical measurements where they go to some stations and buy one litre to see if it is really one litre. This is to check if the station has tampered with the pump.

The NMDPRA boss said that the authority would continue to collaborate with RMAFC to generate more revenue for the federation. He called on citizens to invest in the midstream sector of the economy, saying that the area you want to invest in will determine the cost of investment.

RMAFC chairman, Mr Bello Shehu, said the purpose of engagement between both organisations was to strengthen their partnership.

In summary, the NMDPRA is warning fuel stations that it will sanction them if they alter petroleum pumps. The authority is also collaborating with RMAFC to generate more revenue for the federation.
