The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has accused the Department of State Services (DSS) of illegally detaining its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, and blackmailing the group with insecurity.
IPOB’s spokesman, Emma Powerful, has urged the public to ignore claims that operatives of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) have been neutralized in Arochukwu and Enugu forest. He said that the viral pictures and videos being circulated by the Nigerian military show that they invaded the camp of the Biafra National Guard (BNG), which is not part of IPOB.
Powerful said that the Nigerian government has been trying to blackmail IPOB and ESN for over eight years, but has failed because IPOB’s approach to self-determination is in line with international laws.
He added that the Nigerian government has been sponsoring armed groups in Biafra Land in a desperate attempt to blackmail IPOB and ESN, but that IPOB’s disciplined approach has always exonerated the movement from these sponsored criminals.
