The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation, and Safety Corps, known as So-Safe Corps, has arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly stealing underground electrical cables from the Gateway Stadium in Ilaro, located in Yewa South Local Government Area.
The suspect, identified as Aliyu Umaru, was caught around 2:00 a.m. during a routine patrol by officers from the Ilaro Area Command of the Corps.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement released by the State Commander, Soji Ganzallo, and signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Moruf Yusuf, on Friday.
According to the statement, Umaru confessed to the crime during interrogation. Officers recovered the stolen cables along with a cutlass and a pair of scissors from him.
The statement read: “During a routine patrol on Tuesday, April 23, 2025, at around 2:00 a.m., officers from the Ilaro Area Command noticed suspicious activity at the Gateway Stadium. On closer inspection, they found the suspect, Aliyu Umaru, in the act of removing underground cables. He was promptly apprehended.”
Commander Ganzallo added that the suspect and the recovered items have been handed over to the Nigeria Police at the Ilaro Divisional Headquarters for further investigation and possible prosecution.
