The Vatican has officially announced the passing of Pope Francis.
Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Camerlengo of the Apostolic Chamber, revealed that the Pope died at 7:35 a.m. on Easter Monday.
Speaking from Casa Santa Marta, Cardinal Farrell stated, “Dear brothers and sisters, it is with deep sorrow that I announce the passing of our Holy Father, Pope Francis.
“At 7:35 this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, departed this world and returned to the Father’s house. His life was wholly dedicated to serving God and the Church.
“He inspired us to uphold the values of the Gospel with unwavering faith, courage, and boundless compassion—especially toward the poor and marginalized.
“With heartfelt gratitude for his life and witness as a faithful disciple of Christ, we entrust Pope Francis’s soul to the boundless mercy of the Triune God.”
Born Jorge Mario Bergoglio, Pope Francis was elected on March 13, 2013, becoming the first Latin American to lead the Roman Catholic Church.
