Nigerian Govt vows to end Plateau killings

Defence Minister Mohammed Badaru has assured the people of Plateau State that the government and security forces are determined to put an end to the ongoing violence that has plagued parts of the region.

His remarks come in the wake of recent attacks in Bokkos and Bassa Local Government Areas, where over 100 lives were lost and numerous properties destroyed in the past three weeks.

During a visit to Bassa on Saturday to assess the situation and sympathize with affected residents, Badaru conveyed the Federal Government’s solidarity and condolences to grieving families.

“We are here on behalf of the government to express our condolences and stand with you during this difficult time,” he said. “These killings are unacceptable, and we are committed to stopping them.”

The Minister said he had received detailed briefings on the attacks and promised that those responsible would be apprehended and brought to justice.

“President Bola Tinubu is deeply troubled by these events and has directed us to ensure that the perpetrators are found and held accountable,” Badaru stated.

He added that the government is collaborating closely with the Plateau State Government to implement a security strategy aimed at preventing future violence.

Badaru also emphasized the importance of involving all stakeholders from the affected communities in peace-building efforts to permanently halt the cycle of violence.

In response, Brra Ngwe Ronku Aku, the paramount ruler of the Irigwe Chiefdom, expressed appreciation for the visit and reiterated the need for sustained government and security efforts to restore peace.

He appealed to authorities to support victims by rebuilding homes and helping restore their livelihoods.

“We are committed to working with the government to bring lasting peace to our land,” the monarch said, urging swift action to end the persistent violence and suffering in the region.
