The Kano State Taskforce on Peace Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation has arrested approximately 500 individuals suspected of involvement in thuggery and drug-related crimes across the state.

The taskforce, set up by the state government, is made up of personnel from the Police, NDLEA, NSCDC, Correctional Service, Immigration, Vigilante groups, and other relevant agencies.

Speaking at a security stakeholders meeting on Sunday, the taskforce chairman and Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim, revealed the arrests and emphasized the committee’s intensified efforts to tackle security threats across the state.

He explained that the taskforce had pinpointed several high-risk areas and criminal hideouts within the eight metropolitan local councils, and stressed the importance of support from local community leaders to enhance security.

Dr. Ibrahim also noted that the stakeholder meeting was a vital platform to strengthen peace and stability in Kano.

Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam praised the taskforce’s achievements, describing the committee’s creation as a clear demonstration of the government’s determination to address the state’s security issues.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, highlighted the positive outcomes resulting from the collaboration among security agencies, driven by intelligence-based strategies. He urged the government to consider setting up a special court dedicated to handling cases involving thuggery, phone theft, and drug offenses.

In his remarks, NDLEA Commander Abubakar Idris commended the teamwork among agencies and called for sustained efforts to tackle the state’s security concerns.
