Again, Suspected Gunmen Kill 10 In Plateau Communities

Suspected gunmen have killed 10 people in fresh attacks on five communities in Bokkos Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State.

The attacks, which occurred just six days after a similar assault in Ruwi community—where 10 people were also killed and three others injured during a wake-keep—have left residents in shock.

Communities Targeted in the Latest Attacks

Confirming the attacks in a statement issued in Jos, Chairman of the Bokkos Cultural Development Council (BCDC), Comrade Farmasum Fuddang, detailed how the violence unfolded:

  • Attackers first stormed Mongor, but security forces repelled them.
  • They then moved to Daffo, launching another assault before being driven back by security operatives.
  • The gunmen later attacked Manguna, Hurti, and Tadai, causing more casualties and destruction.

Fuddang lamented the escalating violence, stating, “In just one week, we have lost over 20 members of our community to these attacks.”

He commended the Nigerian military and police for their swift response, which helped minimize casualties. He also urged emergency response agencies like NEMA, SEMA, and the Nigerian Red Cross to provide relief for the displaced and injured.

State Government Condemns the Attacks

In response, the Plateau State Government condemned the killings and destruction in Mangor Tamiso, Daffo, Manguna (Tagai), Hurti, and Tadai.

The State Commissioner for Information, Hon. Joyce Ramnap, extended condolences to the victims and called for calm.

“We urge residents to remain vigilant yet peaceful. Security agencies must ensure that those responsible for these heinous crimes are brought to justice,” she said.

Mass Displacement and Ongoing Security Concerns

Following the attacks, many residents of the affected communities have fled their homes for fear of further violence. Authorities continue to urge for restraint, while security forces remain on high alert to prevent further incidents.
