2 Corps Members Receive Sultan, State Govt Meritorious Award In Sokoto

Two corps members from the 2024 Batch A Stream 2, posted to Sokoto State, have been honored with the Sultanate and State Government Meritorious Awards.

The Sultanate Council recognized the best-behaved male and female corps members in the state, rewarding each with a plasma TV and a cash prize of N100,000.

Speaking in Sokoto, the state’s NYSC Coordinator, Alhaji Usman Yakubu Yaro, explained that the award was instituted to encourage corps members to serve diligently in rural areas.

The Sultanate praised the awardees for their exemplary conduct during their service year, emphasizing that the recognition serves as motivation for other corps members to remain dedicated to national service.

Additionally, Yaro highlighted that the “Best Behaved Male and Female Corps Members” award aims to discourage corps members from clustering in urban areas, stressing that rural communities require their services more.

He expressed optimism that corps members serving in Sokoto State would eventually receive Presidential Awards for their dedication.

Yaro also revealed that the NYSC has partnered with various agencies to provide business skill training, equipping corps members with the tools to be productive both during and after their service year.

Addressing the outgoing corps members, he urged them to make the most of the skills they had acquired to become self-reliant. He also cautioned that those who violated NYSC regulations during their service would face appropriate penalties, as the scheme upholds a system of both rewards and accountability.

Furthermore, he advised corps members to be good ambassadors of the NYSC, remain security-conscious, and avoid traveling at night.
