State of emergency: Federal, state political actors in Rivers should step down – Tonye Cole

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Rivers State for the 2023 election, Tony Cole, has responded to President Bola Tinubu’s decision to declare a state of emergency in the state.

Cole asserted that the declaration implies all political officeholders from Rivers State, both at the federal and state levels, should step down.

As reported by DAILY POST on Tuesday evening, Tinubu made the announcement during a nationwide broadcast, expressing deep concern over the political crisis in the state. He accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of demolishing the State House of Assembly building.

The president stated that after assessing the situation, he had decided to enforce the state of emergency starting March 18.

Cole acknowledged that Tinubu is facing a tough decision regarding the crisis and noted that this move presents a significant challenge for Fubara.

However, he pointed out that the necessary political measures to resolve the crisis have yet to be implemented, warning that the conflict will persist without them.

Speaking to Channels Television, he said, “Everyone involved in politics at the federal level should step down. Everyone involved in politics at the state level should step down. The president must make a very difficult decision on the political front.”
