Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has accused the Senate leadership of attempting to silence her.
Speaking during an interview on Human Rights Radio on Friday, she alleged that she has faced intimidation since joining the Senate and warned that moves were being made to suspend her.
“I am aware that they are planning my suspension, and if that happens, so be it. It won’t stop me from doing my work wherever I can,” she stated.
Her remarks come after a dispute with Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Thursday regarding the reassignment of her seat in the chamber. According to her, the change was a deliberate attempt to reduce her visibility and limit her participation in Senate debates.
She further claimed that she has been excluded from key international events and denied official travel privileges.
Additionally, she alleged that she was removed from a Senate committee following accusations that she was diverting resources from the Niger Delta to the North.
“I have been facing harassment but chose to remain silent to avoid having my words misinterpreted.
“I don’t want lawsuits; I just want a fair chance to work. Many of my privileges have been revoked—I was removed from international engagements I was initially part of.
“For instance, I was nominated for a United Nations event, but my name was later removed. They are making sure I am not promoted in any international activities,” she added.
