The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Yobe State has apprehended 17 suspects for allegedly vandalizing electrical power installations, telecommunications masts, and other critical infrastructure across the state.
The Commander of the General’s Special Intelligence Squad, AS Dandaura, made this known while addressing journalists in Damaturu.
He revealed that a clearance operation led to the discovery of three warehouses stocked with stolen materials. These warehouses were located at Pilgrim Nassarawa bypass, Dujiya behind the new market, and Abari bypass, all within the state capital.
Dandaura further stated that security operatives are actively tracking the suspected mastermind, Aliyu Ajakuta, who is also known as the Chairman of the Scrap Dealers Association in the area.
Recovered items from the warehouses include telecommunications masts, Base Transceiver Stations (BTS), bags of armored cables, rail track slippers, solar panels, and batteries, among others.
The NSCDC reaffirmed its commitment to combating vandalism and safeguarding public infrastructure, urging residents to report suspicious activities to security agencies.
Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will face prosecution.
