Nigeria Police Spokesman Warns of ‘Illiteracy Disease,’ Sparks Reactions

The spokesman of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has cautioned Nigerians about the dangers of illiteracy, describing it as a contagious disease that could lead to imprisonment.

Adejobi issued the warning in a cryptic Facebook post on Tuesday afternoon, stating:
“Illiteracy is a contagious disease and a big problem. It can lead one into jail if not well managed.”

However, he did not provide further clarification, prompting backlash from netizens who accused the police of planning illegal arrests, suppressing public opinion, and engaging in anti-democratic actions.

LEADERSHIP recalls that ACP Adejobi has recently been embroiled in a social media dispute with activists Omoyele Sowore and Barrister Deji Adeyanju, with both sides exchanging veiled criticisms through cryptic posts on their platforms.
