The management of Western Delta University, Oghara, has warned that it may bar 63 students from the International Christian Centre, Uhogua, Benin City, Edo State, from taking their first-semester exams due to an alleged unpaid tuition fee of N116.323 million.
DAILY POST reports that Pastor Solomon A. Folorunsho, Coordinator of the International Christian Centre for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), disclosed this in a letter made available to journalists in Benin City.
Titled “Re: Overdue Payment of School Fees for IDPs Sponsored Students,” the letter was written by the university’s Acting Registrar, E.O. Ofotokun, and dated February 5, 2025. It was addressed to Pastor Folorunsho.
In the letter, Ofotokun stated that the International Christian Centre owed the university N116.323 million after making an initial payment of N7.5 million in March 2024.
Part of the letter reads:
“We write to follow up on our previous correspondence regarding the outstanding debt incurred by your organization for sponsored students at Western Delta University, Oghara.
“As you may recall, your team visited our institution twice to discuss payment modalities, and we were assured of regular payments to settle the debt.
“However, our records show that only N7,500,000 (seven million five hundred thousand naira) has been paid since March last year.
“The outstanding amount for the 2024/2025 academic session now stands at N116,323,000 (one hundred and sixteen million three hundred and twenty-three thousand naira). This significant debt poses a major challenge to the university’s operations, as we rely on timely tuition payments.
“In light of this, the management has decided to take drastic measures to recover the debt. Consequently, all your sponsored students will not be allowed to sit for the upcoming first-semester examinations until the outstanding fees are cleared.
“We urge you to provide a comprehensive payment schedule to reduce the debt significantly. We expect a prompt response on this matter.”
