Billionaire and head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in the United States, Elon Musk, has defended the agency’s decision to cut federal spending.
Speaking to journalists during an unexpected visit to the White House on Tuesday, Musk emphasized that reducing government expenses is not a matter of choice but a necessity.
“It’s not optional for us to reduce federal expenses,” Musk stated. “It’s essential. It’s essential for America to remain solvent as a country.”
His remarks followed President Donald Trump’s issuance of an executive order that further bolstered DOGE’s authority.
In recent days, the Musk-led DOGE has intensified efforts to downsize the US federal government. As part of these measures, the agency has dismantled the US Agency for International Development (USAID) and several other government institutions.
