Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has dismissed widespread social media rumors claiming he impregnated Big Brother Naija star, Nengi.
Speculations surfaced online on Monday, alleging that Nengi had recently given birth to the governor’s child, despite reports that he already has four wives.
Addressing the rumors, Nengi took to X (formerly Twitter) to refute the claims, stating, “Let me be clear, I’m not pregnant for any governor.” However, despite her denial, the gossip continued to spread.
Reacting to the controversy, the governor’s Director-General of New Media, Dr. Samuel Kolawole Oredipe, labeled the news as false in a Facebook post on Monday evening. He clarified that Nengi has no personal ties to the governor and blamed political adversaries for fueling the rumors to create a distraction during events marking Diri’s 5th anniversary in office.
“Once again, the political enemies of His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State, are at work. It is shameful that such falsehood is being spread on the very day the Prosperity Administration began its 5th-anniversary celebrations,” Oredipe stated.
He further condemned the misuse of social media to propagate misinformation, stressing that “Nengi Rebecca Hampson has no personal relationship with the governor. She has already debunked these lies, but this is a clear attempt at distraction. This is why many of us support regulating social media use.”
