A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Mr. Emma Trumps Eke, has dismissed as unfounded the claims that the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, is planning to contest the Abia State governorship in 2027.
Eke, who serves as the Federal Commissioner representing Abia State in the National Population Commission, described the rumors, allegedly published by an obscure blog, as “baseless and politically motivated.”
In a statement released on Friday, Eke accused an unnamed “invisible politician” from Igbere of fabricating the claims to promote his younger brother’s candidacy for the Bende Federal Constituency seat.
As a close ally of the Deputy Speaker, Eke clarified that Kalu is currently focused on strengthening the APC and delivering results for the party and the President, rather than pursuing any personal political ambitions.
“The political future of the Deputy Speaker is in God’s hands and will be determined in consultation with his political family,” Eke said. “Whether he chooses to run for the Senate, governorship, or return to the House of Representatives will be decided transparently.”
Eke urged Kalu, as the leader of the opposition in Abia, to remain committed to working hard to revitalize the state.
He emphasized that the APC is continuously attracting individuals of character and resources, aiming to secure the state for the party in future elections.
Calling for unity within the Abia APC, Eke dismissed the rumors as distractions that could hinder the party’s efforts to solidify its position in the state ahead of the next election cycle.
