Dangote Cement Doubles Students’ Bursary Payment In Benue

Dangote Cement Plc, Gboko Plant, in Benue State, has significantly increased its bursary payments to its host communities, more than doubling the previous amount.

The announcement was made by the Acting Plant Director, Murusamy Murugan, during the presentation of the 2024 Dangote scholarship to the host community. The event, held on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, was attended by representatives of the Yion Clan Foundation and the Yion Traditional Council at the Gboko plant.

Engr. Murugan stated that the upward review of the bursary will take effect in 2025.

“Over the past years, there have been calls from the Mbayion people for an upward review of this amount. I am pleased to announce that it has been increased to ₦22,800, effective from 2025. We trust this support will be judiciously utilized by those who truly merit it,” he said.

Murugan reiterated the company’s commitment to collaborating with the community and stakeholders to implement more community projects, in alignment with the Community Development Agreement and Corporate Social Responsibility policy, as funds become available.

The Mue Ter Gboko, His Royal Highness Ikpa Ahua, expressed gratitude to Dangote Industries Limited for responding positively to the community’s request for an increase in the bursary. He reaffirmed the community’s dedication to maintaining a strong and harmonious relationship with the company.

He highlighted that many members of the host community are gainfully employed at the company and stressed the importance of preserving the existing cordial bond.

Similarly, Comrade Orver Yongu, President of the Yion Development Association (YIDA), praised Dangote Cement for its consistent commitment to the welfare of the host community. He extended the community’s appreciation for the company’s continued support and partnership.
